As a personal trainer and macro coach, I am always on the lookout for ways to improve muscle building and hit my daily protein goal. While I am a firm believer in eating mostly whole foods to hit my goals, I am also not opposed to utilizing supplements when and where I need them.

Body Health recently reached out to me to ask if I wanted to give their Perfect Amino supplement a try. After doing a bit of research, I offered an enthusiastic yes!

I was a tad confused as to what Perfect Amino actually was (is it a protein powder??), but I not only tried it out, but I also did a bunch of research on it so I can report back here to you in case this product has caught your eye and you’re considering adding it to your supplement routine.

First, What Is Perfect Amino?

Perfect Amino is a supplement that is made up of essential amino acids (EAAs), which are the building blocks of protein. You can think of it as a shortcut your body can use when it needs more pure, fast, protein-building support. Aka post-workout, during fasting, or when recovering.

It’s important to understand that Perfect Amino is not a protein source like meat or traditional protein powders, which your body must first break down before being used. Perfect Amino provides you with just the key amino acids so that your body can utilize them immediately to build muscle, repair tissue, and support your recovery.

Perfect Amino has zero calories, is vegan, and Body Health claims that it’s 99% usable by the body when compared to lower absorption from food-based proteins. It’s not a replacement for whole foods that contain protein, it’s simply a supplement that can potentially optimize your body’s ability to build and maintain lean muscle mass.

I was really trying to wrap my head around whether it’s a protein or not and how it would compare to a traditional protein source. According to Body Health, the 5 grams of EAAs in Perfect Amino would be comparable to about 25-30 grams of whey protein (in terms of muscle-building potential), but it doesn’t provide the same calorie impact. Interesting!

What’s It Like Taking Perfect Amino?

First, there are several flavors to choose from, including:

  • Chocolate
  • Vanilla
  • Mixed berry
  • Lemon lime
  • Mocha
  • Strawberry
  • Unflavored

There are also three different sizes to choose from (30, 60, or 120 servings per container). I went with lemon lime as a fruity flavor for this type of supplement, rather than creamy or rich flavors like chocolate or vanilla. They also offer Perfect Aminos in capsule form if that’s your preference. But keep in mind that you need to take quite a few of the capsules to get the right amount per serving.

From a taste and texture standpoint, this product is pretty good. The lemon lime has a nice subtle flavor, and it mixes well with water. I feel like I’m drinking electrolytes or something similar when I’m taking Perfect Aminos, which is to say it’s really simple and pleasant to drink. I started taking 2 scoops per day, but let me break down what Body Health recommends based on your goals.

How to Use

Body Health offers a complete usage guide on its website, which is really helpful. If you end up trying this product, I highly recommend going and reading the guide for best results. The amount you take per day will depend on your weight and your goals.

Body Health shows you protocols for general use (health, muscle, anti-aging, skin, immune support, sleep, and mood), fat loss, and for working out. I am taking the general use approach, which recommends (for my body weight) that I take 2 servings first thing in the morning and then another serving 1-4 hours before bedtime. I’ll be honest, I usually forget the bedtime serving.

I mix mine up with water and have been drinking it while I work out in the mornings. I read that it’s best to take it on an empty stomach, so taking it while I work out works for me. I don’t do intermittent fasting or anything like that, but I work out early in the morning and don’t usually eat anything beforehand.

Results/How Do I Feel?

This isn’t the kind of supplement that you’re going to notice any kind of drastic changes from immediately. I am already a healthy, lean, and fit person, so I haven’t really noticed any dramatic changes, but I have noted that I have more energy during my workouts and am recovering better, too.  I haven’t been as sore this month as I usually am when I start a new workout program. So far, I am enjoying this product!

I really like that it’s easy to add to my morning routine, it tastes great, and I think the science behind it is really cool. It’s basically like a cheat code for optimizing your muscles, and I am all for it. I am eager to continue to take Perfect Amino to see where it takes me.

I haven’t changed anything else about my diet since adding Perfect Amino. I am still aiming to get ~130g of protein in my day via whole foods and the occasional protein shake and/or bar. I am viewing Perfect Amino as a little extra boost in the muscle department, not a replacement for anything else I was already eating.

Who Should Try It?

There are several populations of people that I think can benefit from adding Perfect Aminos to their diet, including:

  • Those who work out and want to improve muscle recovery, reduce soreness, and enhance their performance.
  • Those trying to lose body fat while maintaining their muscle mass.
  • Those who follow a fasting diet, as it will not break their fast.
  • Those who are vegan or vegetarian as getting enough EAAs from food is harder when following a plant-based diet.

Final Thoughts

I’m excited to see where Perfect Amino takes me. After reading a bunch of articles and information from Body Health, I feel confident that this is a unique and effective product. Even when comparing it to other EAA supplements on the market, it’s clear that the formula quality and absorption rate of Perfect Amino is a cut above the rest.

The Perfect Amino line also includes several other formulas like greens, reds, sleep, and probiotics - I haven’t tried any of these, but it’s nice to know that you can get a variety of supplements to enhance and supplement your healthy lifestyle from a trustworthy, science-backed company.

Will you try Perfect Amino? What are you hoping to get out of taking it? I’d love to hear your feedback!
