Clean Simple Eats has been one of my go-to supplement brands for over three years now. I have tried nearly every product they offer and have loved almost everything.
As a personal trainer and macro coach, I’m often asked about supplements, particularly, protein powders. Clean Simple Eats is always one of my very first recommendations.
In this article, I’m sharing with you my full review of Clean Simple Eats products based on my personal experience with the brand and products.
Rating Clean Simple Eats
Overall, Clean Simple Eats is a clean supplement brand that I trust and use on a consistent basis. I love their protein powder, hydration mix, peachy greens and their clean protein drinks.

The brand started off making recipes and transitioned to supplements, plus they have an app (CSE+). They are great at what they do, they know their customers and they really care. 5 Stars all the way!
Taste/Flavor
All of their supplements have multiple flavors and cater to many different taste buds. I have my favorites and they taste great. Those are the reasons why they score high with taste and flavor.
Product Selection
They're just getting started, so they don't have it all, but I can see them getting there.
Quality
Clean Simple Eats focuses on "clean" supplements. They do a great job of using high quality ingredients, their packaging and branding is on point, and their customer service is outstanding.
Value
Choosing Clean Simple Eats supplements is a great value because it's high quality, they taste great and they're effective. The only drawback is they are pricey. That said, almost all premium supplement brands charge a lot.

What Is Clean Simple Eats?

Clean Simple Eats is a supplement brand that offers a variety of products designed to help make living a healthier lifestyle easy, convenient, and delicious. The brand was founded by a husband/wife duo from Utah who were on their own fitness and health journey.
As I’m writing this review, the Clean Simple Eats product lineup includes the following products:
- Premium whey protein powder
- Clear, canned protein drinks and protein plus energy drinks
- Green powders
- Hydration mixes
- Collagen
- Energy mixes
- Nut butters
- Protein pancake and waffle mixes
- Probiotics
- Recipe eBooks
All Clean Simple Eats products are free of artificial ingredients, non-GMO, 3rd party tested, erythritol-free, and manufactured in the USA.
Clean Simple Eats Is Not…
A bargain supplement brand. All CSE products are premium quality and priced to reflect that. If you’re looking for a cheap protein powder or other fitness supplement, this brand is not a fit.
How Much Do Clean Simple Eats Products Cost?
A 30-serving bag of Clean Simple Eats protein powder costs $59.99, which comes out to about $2 per serving of protein. Clean Simple Eats Greens Powder mix costs $39.99 per 30-serving bag, making each serving around $1.33.
When comparing Clean Simple Eats to other similar high-end supplement brands, CSE is very competitive with its pricing.
More About The Clean Simple Eats Brand
I love that Clean Simple Eats is a brand founded and run by a husband/wife team, it’s always fun seeing other couples crushing goals and running big companies together! JJ and Erika Peterson originally started the brand as a small, family-run operation.
Over the years they have grown and expanded to new heights, which has allowed them to expand their team and their reach. Today, Clean Simple Eats isn’t only sold online, it can be found in multiple major grocery chains and retailers across the country.
My Personal Experience and Review of Clean Simple Eats Products
I have been fortunate enough to try all of Clean Simple Eat’s products over the years, so I have firsthand experience I can share with you for each product.
Protein Powder

Chocolate Brownie Batter and Vanilla flavors

Let’s start with perhaps the most popular and best-selling product that CSE has to offer, its protein powder. CSE protein powder is one of the best protein powders on the market.
When it comes to choosing a protein powder, it’s important to choose one that has a good flavor, consistency, and texture, Clean Simple Eats covers all three. I always keep the vanilla and chocolate flavors stocked, however, they have a great selection of other flavors including seasonal favorites. Current flavors include:
- Simple Vanilla
- Chocolate Brownie Batter
- Chocolate Peanut Butter
- Coconut Cream
- Cookies ‘N Cream
- Mint Chocolate Cookie
- White Chocolate Peppermint
- Cake Batter
- Strawberry Cheesecake
- Bananas Foster
- Snickerdoodle
- Pumpkin Pie
- Peaches & Cream
- Eggnog
- Cotton Candy
Pro tip: If you’re a first-time protein powder purchaser, buy the sample pack to test them all before committing to a full size!
I use Clean Simple Eat’s protein in a ton of different recipes as well as on its own. I find the texture, consistency, and flavor to be top-notch. Plus, they offer their protein powders in single-serve packets in addition to the 30-serving bag which makes taking your protein powder on the go to work, while traveling, to the gym, etc. really simple and convenient.

Greens Powders

Raspberry Lemonade flavor
I’ll start by saying that Clean Simple Eat’s Green’s Powders are the only ones that I can actually stomach. I am not a fan of traditional green’s powders and their grassy flavors. Clean Simple Eats Green’s powders come in a variety of flavors that completely mask the flavor of the greens.
My favorite flavor is the Peachy Greens, however, they also have Cherry Limeade, Raspberry Lemonade, Tropical, Sweet Lemon, Green Apple, and unflavored.
I can’t confidently say that the greens powders make a significant difference in my health, however, I can tell you that I feel a lot healthier and nourished when I add a scoop into my daily routine. I feel as though I have more energy and I don’t feel so bad about not getting enough veggies and micronutrients into my diet.
Collagen

Blue Hawaii flavor
One of the best things about Clean Simple Eats Collagen powder is that it comes in a bunch of delicious flavors! Drinking collagen is really easy when you feel like you’re drinking a glass of Kool-Aid.
I love adding collagen to my daily routine because it helps to keep my hair, skin, and nails strong and glowing. I like that Clean Simple Eats using only grass-fed collagen and it contains types I, II, and II (many collagen powders contain only one or two types of collagen!). I also love that they offer it in single-serve packs for on-the-go usage!
My favorite flavor is the Blue Hawaiin, but they also have the following flavors to choose from:
- Unflavored (nice for baking)
- Blackberry Lemonade
- Cucumber Lime
- Peach Mango
- Sour Watermelon
One thing that I like to note about Clean Simple Eats collagen is that it’s not the best option to mix into coffee if you enjoy collagen coffee like I do. The fruity flavors aren’t great for coffee, however, the unflavored one works great.
On another note, I’ve heard a few people complain about the collagen powder not mixing well. The key to fully mixing this powder into liquid is to use lukewarm water and then add ice. If you try to mix it into ice-cold water, it tends to separate.
Hydration Mix

Lemon Lime flavor
I’ll preface this section by saying that I am very particular about hydration mixes. I don’t like them to be overly salty, but I also want to feel like it’s actually working. I have tried all of Clean Simple Eat’s Hydration mix flavors and, to be really honest wasn’t a huge fan in the beginning.
The powders tasted really good, but they didn’t feel like they were hydrating me. It felt like I was drinking a glass of flavored water. That said, the ingredients do reflect that there are indeed hydrating ingredients like electrolytes and BCAAs, so I’m positive that they are doing their job.
The great news (for me, anyway), was that Clean Simple Eats recently launched a new lemon/lime-flavored powder that is right up my alley! It’s salty without being too salty and has just the right amount of flavor.
So while I am not the biggest fan of the other flavors personally, I absolutely love the Lemon/Lime flavor and recommend it to my clients and friends all the time. If you’re someone who typically avoids hydration mixes because they’re too salty, you’ll love Clean Simple Eats’ options!
Energy Mix

I don’t drink a lot of energy drinks or mixes, I’m more of a coffee in the morning and that’s it for caffeine type of gal, however, every so often I enjoy a good energy mix.
Some mornings when getting out of bed to workout feels tough, I’ll grab an energy mix packet from Clean Simple Eats and drink that down. I love that the energy this mix provides is not extreme, it doesn’t make me feel jittery or tingly at all. I also like to mix the energy mix with the hydration mix sometimes for a stacked combo that provides a ton of energy and hydration all at once!
Clean Simple Eats Energy Mix contains 100mg of caffeine, natural electrolytes, and B vitamins. It comes in a variety of flavors, including:
- Lemon Lime
- Coconut Lime
- Hawaiin Sunrise (my favorite flavor!)
- Sour Cherry
- Strawberry Watermelon

Clear Protein Drinks/Protein + Energy

Mountain Rush and Paradise Punch flavors
Clean Simple Eats recently launched their Clear Protein and Clear Protein + Energy Drinks and it’s quite possibly the most genius product they’ve launched to date. These clear protein drinks contain a whopping 20g of protein per can with only 90 calories!
These clear drinks come in a variety of delicious flavors, it’s the easiest 20g of protein ever! Ever since these drinks launched, I have been recommending them to my clients left and right, particularly those who struggle with hitting their protein goals.
I tend to drink the regular Clear Protein Drinks more than the Protein + Energy as I am not a big energy drink person. However, some occasions certainly call for a little boost and these work great! Alex (my husband) loves CSE Clear Protein + Energy drinks to hit his daily protein goals.
These drinks are non-carbonated, so they taste more like a fruit juice than a fizzy drink. The current flavor lineup includes:

Clear Protein + Energy:
How Does Clean Simple Eats Compare To Other Similar Supplements?
I compare Clean Simple Eats to other higher-end supplements like 1st Phorm, Just Ingredients, and Transparent Labs. All of these supplement brands offer premium quality products that contain ingredients that are a cut above the rest.
I really value third-party testing as a consumer, so aligning with brands like Clean Simple Eats that provide that for peace of mind and quality assurance is a major green flag. I will happily pay a little extra for a thoroughly tested product vs. saving a little money on a questionable one.
Aside from ingredient quality, the taste and texture of supplements are a big thing for me. Clean Simple Eats has some of the best-tasting protein powder on the market, making it an easy choice for those looking to supplement their diet with extra protein. Compared to bargain brands, Clean Simple Eats shines when it comes to taste, texture, and consistency.
I have yet to need to reach out to Clean Simple Eats’ customer service team, so I cannot speak on any firsthand experience there, however, judging by their management of reviews on their website, they certainly appear to care about their customers and making sure they have nothing short of a positive experience.
Here’s a quick comparison of other similar brands I have used:
1st Phorm offers a complete line of high-quality workout supplements, including many of the same options that Clean Simple Eats offers. Price-wise, 1st Phorm and Clean Simple Eats are very comparable. The biggest difference between these two is that 1st Phorm offers a lot more products across a more vast range of areas within health and fitness while Clean Simple Eats has remained very niche in their product offering.
I love 1st Phorm’s products, brand, and overall vibe. Here in our household, we use and love many 1st Phorm products. We also have a selection of both Clean Simple Eats and 1st Phorm protein powders stocked up. I find the two brands to be very similar when it comes to their protein powders, but they offer different flavors, which is why we end up using both brands.
Just Ingredients is a supplement brand that prioritizes clean, safe ingredients. It’s a wonderful brand for those who are mindful of added ingredients and potential toxins. Clean Simple Eats also promises clean ingredients, however, Just Ingredients is slightly more aggressive with its ingredients and does not include anything that is even remotely questionable in the supplement industry.
Because Just Ingredients is so dedicated to clean products, they are without a lot of the fillers and binders that can help make their consistency and mixability the best, so keep in mind that you will need to work a bit harder to mix things up.
Transparent Labs is very comparable to 1st Phorm in that they offer a very large product selection, but they can also be compared to Clean Simple Eats in that they provide very similar offerings. Transparent Labs, just like Clean Simple Eats, takes pride in sharing clean ingredients and safe products.
Personally, I prefer Clean Simple Eats' flavors and texture over Transparent Labs, however, the fact that Transparent Labs can offer more supplements to choose from may sway someone to choose them over CSE.
FAQs
To be honest, this depends on who you ask and what their definition of “clean” is. From my understanding, Clean Simple Eats uses only all-natural ingredients, nothing artificial. They also 3rd party test all of their products to ensure that they are safe and free of harmful chemicals and contaminants. From my perspective, that’s “clean,” however, others will argue otherwise. Ultimately, it’s up to you to do your own research and make an informed decision based on your needs, preferences, and views.
No, no supplements are FDA approved as the FDA doesn't regulate supplements. That being said, CSE is fully tested in an FDA-approved facility.
There are many ways to enjoy CSE’s protein powder! You can, of course, mix the powder with liquid like water or milk to create a quick, easy protein shake, but you can also use it in a ton of recipes. I like to make thick, creamy protein milk shakes with mine and I also use it in protein baked goods quite often. There are endless possibilities!
Conclusion
Clean Simple Eats is one of my favorite supplement brands and I have no doubt that it will continue to be as they keep launching new, innovative products that are helping us hit our goals and feel our best.
I judge the quality of a brand based on many things, but most importantly is if I would recommend it to my friends, family, and clients. In the case of Clean Simple Eats, I am constantly singing its praises and urging my people to give it a try.
If you’re looking for high-quality supplements that are priced fairly and that will make your life just a tad easier, give Clean Simple Eats a try and be sure to come back and let me know what you think!
