Have you heard of Future Fitness yet? Maybe it came across your radar lately from the announcement of the merger between Future and Autograph (co-founded by none other than Tom Brady AKA the GOAT). Regardless, this fitness app is pretty cool and deserves to be shared.

I actually first tried Future Fitness way back in 2021 (feels like forever ago, right?). I had a great experience back then, but since it’s been a few years, I thought I would re-visit. I wanted to see what changes they made (if any) and how the merger with Autograph was going to play a role in the user experience.

As a personal trainer myself with my own fitness app, I really value checking out the industry and seeing what other, much larger companies are doing. So, I went ahead and tried Future Fitness and am here to share my feedback. If you’ve been considering the future, I hope this will have an impact on you.

Getting Started

The whole premise of Future is that you get paired up with a certified personal trainer who will become your virtual fitness coach. Getting started with Future is straightforward. You can either choose from their full list of available coaches and start that way, or you can take their quiz, and they’ll present you with a handful of potential matches.

I went the quiz route. The quiz is short and simple, asking you a series of questions about your goals, your style, your preferences when it comes to a trainer, etc. Once the quiz is complete, they’ll share with you some potential coaching matches, but you need to enter your name and email in order to view them.

Once you enter your email, you’ll be able to review the options Future chose for you based on your preferences. I got matched with 4 potential coaches, 3 women and 1 man (even though I stated I preferred a female coach). I ended up selecting Coach Emily as she had the profile of someone who I thought I would resonate with. As an important side note, you can switch coaches at any time during your coaching experience with Future, so if, for some reason, things aren’t clicking, you’re not locked in.

As soon as you choose your coach, you’ll be brought to the checkout screen, where you’ll pay for your first month of coaching. They offer a discount on your first month ($99 then $199 after that), and they have a 30-day refund policy, which is nice.

What’s Next?

Shortly after I submitted my payment and downloaded the Future Personal Training App, I received a personalized message from my coach (both written and video!). I thought this was a really nice touch because, honestly, with all the AI usage these days, we have lost that personal touch. When it comes to something as intimate and personal as your fitness journey, it’s nice to know that you have a real, live person in your corner, not just a bot.

The message was an introduction to her as a trainer and to the app, as well as what the next steps would look like. I had the option to interact back directly with Coach Emily.

The next steps included going through a series of questions about my health and fitness goals, what equipment I had access to, what my workout preferences were, etc.

From there, I was asked to book a video call with my coach so we could connect face-to-face.

Quick note: When I first tried Future back in 2021, you needed to have an Apple Watch/Apple access to participate; however, they have upgraded so that you no longer have to - Future syncs with multiple fitness watches now, and it's also available on Android.

Scheduling the call was easy, my coach had plenty of time slots available. I got on a call with Emily the next day. She was kind, supportive, and happy to share her background with me. She took the time to get to know me and my needs so she could build me a customized plan.

Getting to Work (Future Workouts)

After wrapping up my call with Emily, it was only a day or so later that she came back with a personalized fitness plan for me based on what we talked about on the call. I was able to log into the app and preview my whole plan.

One thing that was really cool was that Emily had gone in and left me personalized notes in my workouts to make sure I was executing the exercises properly and felt supported during the workout. The exercises come up one at a time, along with the prescribed reps and sets. If you have a compatible fitness watch, you can also view them on your watch screen.

All of the data you log will be tracked and can be viewed by your coach. This is where the accountability piece comes into play. Knowing that someone would be reviewing my workouts and making sure I’m doing them kept me motivated to show up. There’s also an option to record yourself doing an exercise to send to your coach for him or her to review and provide feedback on.

As a personal trainer who programs workouts for hundreds of women, I was actually very happy with the program Emily built for me. It was simple, progressive, and contained all the basic strength movements that deliver results. I love that you can have your coach do form checks for you, as this is critical in injury prevention.

Ongoing Experience

I got frequent messages from Emily checking in on me and supporting me. She would mostly send text messages but a video here and there, too. You can also schedule check-in calls if/when you need them. I never did a check-in call because I didn’t really feel the need, however, those newer to fitness might.

Each week, your coach sends you a new training plan. Personally, I prefer to repeat the same program for weeks (4-6) at a time so that I can properly apply progressive overload (getting stronger and better over time). I can relate to the novelty of new workouts each week, but it’s not my preference and not the way I personally program workouts.

At any point, you can check in with your coach and ask for adjustments, rearrange your schedule, take a break, etc. It’s nice knowing that you have access to a real person to feel supported on your fitness journey.

Overall Thoughts and Opinions

Trying Future in 2025 was very similar to trying it in 2021. I didn’t really notice anything too new or innovative relating to the merger with Autographer, but perhaps that’s coming down the road. The biggest upgrades were in relation to accessibility - Future is now available for both Apple and Android, and it connects with multiple different Fitness watches, not just Apple Watch.

One thing that I think Future could do to help their clients level up their success would be to add a nutrition coaching component to the app. They could be offering the best workouts in the world, but if their clients don’t understand nutrition or their unique needs, it’s hard to help them get the best results.

All in all, I think Fututre is a fantastic app that provides real value for those who want 1:1 training but don’t have access to a gym or don’t want to spend the extra money on an in-person coach. I think this style of personal training lends itself well to those who work out from home and wouldn’t be venturing out to the gym where they’d have the opportunity to work in person with a trainer.

At $199/month, Future is an affordable option.

Keep It Up, Future!

As a personal trainer, online fitness coach, and app owner, I am thoroughly impressed with what Future has to offer and think it’s a fantastic opportunity for those who thrive on connection and accountability to get access to a real coach who will support them on their journey.

One of the biggest pitfalls I see with the women I work with in my app is that they often fall off the wagon because they aren’t motivated enough on their own, and they haven’t yet built the discipline to make fitness part of their lifestyle. In these instances, adding the support of a coach might help keep them more consistent.

Although Future could be considered a competitor of mine, we offer different approaches, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to fitness. If I had a client who wanted more hands-on coaching and support that I am not in a position to provide, Future would be at the top of my list for online personal training recommendations.

Will you try Future? Let me know in the comments!
