A few months ago, I found myself going down the beef organ supplement rabbit hole. If you’ve spent any time on social media lately, then you’ve probably heard countless influencers, functional medicine doctors, and wellness experts talking about the benefits of adding organ meats to your diet without actually having to cook and eat liver, heart, and kidney (ick).
I’ll be honest, I was super intrigued when I first heard about beef organ supplements and the potential hormonal benefits, as I’ve struggled with hormonal imbalances and PCOS for years now and am always open to exploring safe and natural remedies.
Through my research, I discovered that there were quite a few brands selling beef organ supplements, with Primal Queen and Heart & Soil both catching my eye, so I decided to take a look at both and choose which one felt the most aligned with my goals and needs. Here’s what I discovered! I hope this is helpful if you are comparing these two brands.
Why Beef Organs Are Having a Moment
Before I get into comparing Primal Queen to Heart & Soil, let’s first touch on why beef organ supplements are so popular right now. Basically, beef organs are a nutrient powerhouse, rich in vitamins and minerals. Beef organs contain:
- Vitamins A, D, E, and K (fat-soluble vitamins that support hormones, skin, and immune health)
- B Vitamins (especially B12 and folate for energy and brain function)
- Minerals like iron, zinc, selenium, and copper
- CoQ10 and other compounds that support heart health and mitochondrial function
People have been consuming beef organs for centuries, but they aren’t really finding a place in our modern eating habits. I mean, despite all of the amazing benefits you can get from eating beef organs, the thought of actually eating them is a bit repulsive. But that’s why the beef organ capsules were invented, so we can get all the benefits without the taste or texture issues.
The Two Brands That Stood Out to Me
There were a few brands that I looked into, but two of them stood out the most: Heart & Soil and Primal Queen. Both of these brands are really popular and offer freeze-dried beef organ capsules, but they’re not the same, so let’s talk about it.
Heart & Soil
Heart & Soil is a big brand in this space, being co-founded by Dr. Paul Saladino (Aka the “Carnivore MD”). They offer a wide range of supplements for various purposes and health goals. Heart & Soil offers everything from beef organs and protein powder to fat-burning supplements and performance supplements.
All of their products are grass-fed, grass-finished, and sourced from cattle in New Zealand. As far as clean, natural, and lab-tested supplements go, Heart & Soil is definitely of the utmost quality. All of their products are tested by Informed Sport, which is a globally recognized substance testing certification program that’s considered to be the gold standard for sports nutrition.
Specifically looking at Heart & Soil’s beef organs supplement, it contains grass-fed and finished liver, heart, pancreas, spleen, and kidney. The only other ingredient is gelatin, which is for the capsule itself. Otherwise, this is a super clean product. Users are directed to take 6 capsules once daily. However, if you’re new to taking organ supplements, taking 1-2 capsules per day for the first week can help your body ease into it.
One thing that kind of turned me off Heart & Soil’s supplement was the fact that you need to take 6 capsules per day, which feels like a lot, especially for those who struggle with swallowing capsules or who take other supplements alongside them. I also didn’t see anywhere that talked about any kind of essence to the capsules to make them easier to swallow, so I imagine they might smell and taste not the greatest.
From a price perspective, Heart & Soil charges $52 for a one-time purchase, or you have the option to subscribe and save 10% and get your beef organs delivered to your door every 30 days for $46.80 (not a huge savings, but better than nothing). They advertise free and easy returns and free U.S. shipping on orders over $100 (so you’d need to buy more than one product to qualify for free shipping). I didn’t see any kind of mention of a money-back guarantee.
Primal Queen
Primal Queen is a newer player in the market, but I was instantly intrigued because of the bright colors and the fact that they market directly to women and women’s hormone health (which was what I was looking for). Their flagship product is their beef organ blend that contains beef liver, beef heart, beef kidney, beef ovaries, beef uterus, and beef fallopian tubes. The addition of the female-specific organs shows that this product is geared toward hormone health for women specifically.
Note: I highlighted my experience with Primal Queen for those that are interested in reading that.
The formula felt a little more targeted toward what I personally needed, especially since I’ve been focusing on balancing hormones and supporting my cycle naturally while combating my PCOS symptoms.
The ingredients label on Primal Queen’s supplement includes a proprietary blend of beef liver (meaning they don’t disclose the exact amount of each product), and the only other ingredient is gelatin for the capsules (just like Heart & Soil). The proprietary blend thing can potentially be an issue for those who want to know specific and precise information regarding the quantity of each ingredient, but for me personally, I am ok with the blend. Primal Queen is fully 3rd party tested and certified using the strictest of standards.
Primal Queen’s serving is 1 capsule, 2 times per day, which is significantly more manageable than Heart & Soil’s 6 capsules. However, that means that you need to remember to take your Primal Queen capsules twice daily. They also essence their capsules with peppermint to make them easier to take, masking the beef organs' taste and smell, which is a major perk.
All Primal Queen capsules are fully lab tested, and they even published an IRB-approved clinical trial that found the following:
- +36.7& increase in energy after 3 cycles
- +83.3% increase in satisfaction with menstrual cycle
- +40.6% improvement in perceived hormone balance
- +27.2% improvement in mood rating
From a pricing perspective, Primal Queen’s product costs $44 per month, and you get a cute glass jar and on-the-go keychain pill case for free with your first order. Plus, they offer free shipping in the U.S. without a minimum order amount (huge perk). You can also choose their 3-month plan, which includes the same perks but costs you only $88 for 3 months, which means that you get a whole month free.
Both pricing options are subscription-based, so you need to cancel your order if you decide you don’t want to have it shipped to you anymore. I know a lot of people hate subscriptions, but I honestly don’t mind them at all. If it’s a product that you’re using and enjoying, it’s basically set on autopilot for you, so you never have to remember to re-order. Plus, you can cancel anytime. Primal Queen also has a 365-day money-back guarantee, which is always nice to see.
Why I Chose Primal Queen
Ultimately, I decided to go with Primal Queen for a number of reasons:
First, it’s a female-focused formula, and since I was seeking a beef organ supplement to specifically help me with female-specific problems, this one felt much more aligned for me. Second, I’m not a huge fan of taking a bunch of capsules at once, especially if they have a terrible taste, and I felt like Heart & Soil’s would be hard for me to stomach every day. With Primal Queen, it’s one small capsule at a tim,e and they smell like peppermint, so I’m not totally grossed out taking them.
Third, I honestly just vibed with the Primal Queen brand a bit more. It’s a super female-friendly brand with fun colors and messaging that is really attractive. Obviously, I didn’t make my decision just based on appearances; I actually think Primal Queen has a very legitimate product that’s helping thousands of women.

The price compared to Heart & Soil was much more affordable, and I didn’t have to pay for shipping (I hate when there’s an extra shipping fee tacked on). Also, in keeping it honest here, I’m not sure I’m the biggest fan of Paul Saladino (the Carnivore Dr. who founded Heart & Soil), even just looking at his Instagram, it’s easy to see he’s one of those pushy, fear-mongering people who sometimes do more harm than good, in my opinion.
I’m sure Heart & Soil’s product is great and would be effective; however, it wasn’t the best fit for me at this time.
Final Thoughts
After researching both Primal Queen and Heart & Soil, it’s clear that both products are made with high-quality ingredients and are rigorously tested. For me, it came down to choosing the brand that aligned best with your goals of using the product and the price.
