Remedy Meds is a telehealth brand that offers compounded GLP-1 medications and has served thousands of members to date. I consistently see Remedy Meds at the top of the lists for the “Best GLP-1 Providers” by big publications like Forbes Health and USA Today. As a personal trainer and nutrition coach, GLP-1 medications play a major role in my business now. In the Simply Strong App, I have dozens of members who are using GLP-1 medications as a tool on their health journey.

I have been following the GLP-1 industry closely for years now, first with curiosity, and now with intention, because the truth is, these medications are completely changing the game, and I would be foolish not to be well versed in not only the ins and outs of helping support patients while taking them, but also with helping them to align with a provider who can best support their goals and needs. You can see how I review GLP-1 providers here.

This is where my research into Remedy Meds comes into play. Remedy Meds is a big player in the online weight loss industry, and I have multiple clients using them for their monthly medication, so I decided to take a closer look at what Remedy Meds offers, what their process looks like, and whether or not I believe they're a legitimate source for compounded GLP-1 medications.

My Experience With and Feedback On Remedy Meds

To start my review of Remedy Meds, I went directly to their website. The first thing I noticed was that it had a lot going on - there are banners at the top highlighting a coupon code to save on your first month, countless before and after testimonials, and flashing buttons urging you to “start your weight loss journey.” For context, I have reviewed and explored many of these GLP-1 telehealth providers, so I know what to look for and exactly what the general process of getting started looks like.

I went ahead and started the intake questionnaire. The quiz starts off with standard questions of how much weight you would like to lose, and then you’re asked to enter your current height and weight. When you enter your current height/weight, there’s an automatic BMI (body mass index) calculator there that will immediately let you know if your BMI pre-qualifies you for medication. For reference, I am 5’7” tall and weigh ~130 lbs. When I entered this information, I was told my BMI did not meet the criteria for medication (this was expected, as I have a very healthy BMI). I ended up playing around with my weight, increasing it until the BMI criteria had been met. The BMI criteria for Remedy Meds appear to be 22, as when I reached that, I was able to move on to the next step.

The BMI threshold is important to note because this is where a lot of GLP-1 providers will differ. When these medications first became available, the BMI guidelines for approval for very strict. Providers were only able to approve medication for those with a BMI of >30 or >27 with a qualifying medical condition. These guidelines, however, have changed a lot over the last year or so, and many providers have found ways to lower the barrier to entry. A lot of people in my industry (fitness and health) disagree with the increased availability of these medications, which I can understand to a degree. But, I am on the side of science and research and of allowing people to do what they want so long as their educated on how to use these medications in a safe and effective way.

BMI Requirements

Remedy Meds has its BMI requirement set to 22 for the pre-qualification phase, which is, in my opinion, a pretty middle-ground place. There are other providers like Josie and Emerge who don’t necessarily pre-qualify based on BMI, but rather on other indicators like menopause-related symptoms and appetite control.

Moving on, the Remedy Meds quiz then took me through more basic questions, including my sex, date of birth, state, reason(s) why I am seeking treatment, any medications I am currently taking, and my health history. The quiz is pretty interactive, with informational pop-ups and graphs after many of the questions that display stats and encouragement.

At the end of the quiz, I was told that I wasn’t qualified. So even though the BMI I entered was high enough to pass me through to the rest of the quiz, I was still not qualified for medication. I don’t know for sure what factors they use in the pre-qualification process, but with an entered BMI of 22 and no other medical conditions, I was not approved. I went ahead and took the quiz again, using a higher BMI, and was approved. My feelings are mixed on this as a BMI of 22 is very normal and healthy, but I do know that there are people struggling with appetite control and inflammation who only have a few pounds to lose that would benefit from being able to access these medications (even if only in microdoses).

When you get to the approval page, you’ll see a graph showing you your potential weight loss and the date you can expect to lose it by. Remedy Meds actually gave a very realistic timeline for weight loss, which I love because that tells me that they are not out there making huge claims and promises and are hopefully not prescribing people high doses of the medication right out the gate to give them quick and dramatic results as that’s where we start to see some of the negative side effects of taking these medications (nausea, muscle loss, weakness, etc.).

Remedy Meds quiz by Tami Smith

The next step in Remedy Meds’ process is to select which medication you would like to use. Remedy Meds offers compounded semaglutide, compounded tirzepatide, and name-brand medications (Ozempic and Zepbound). My assumption is that the vast majority of patients who are seeking medication from Remedy Meds are seeking the affordable, compounded versions. At $1,179 or $1,279 per month for Ozempic or Zepbound, there are other options for getting the brand-name medications for less (like going directly to the manufacturer or using your health insurance to cover them).

Remedy Meds offers its compounded semaglutide for $179 for the first month and then $299 per month after that. For compounded tirzepatide, it’s $279 for the first month and then $399 per month after that. These prices are very average in the industry, but the discount for the first month of $120 is very enticing! I also love that Remedy Meds keeps its pricing very simple and straightforward. There are no additional costs or fees associated with your membership, and it’s a month-to-month commitment that you can cancel at any time. This means that if, for some reason, you decide the medication is not the right fit for you, you aren’t obligated to continue treatment.

Included with your purchase is direct access to a licensed physician in your state. Most states will allow you to complete the entire process via email/text messaging; however, some states do require a video consult with a provider. You can also request a video consultation with a provider at any time throughout your journey with Remedy Meds, which should give you some peace of mind that you’re being supported, not just left high and dry with a medication that you’re more than likely a little nervous about starting.

Once you choose which medication you’d like, you’re brought to a checkout page where you’ll enter your credit card information. Once you complete your purchase, your information will be sent to be reviewed by a licensed provider in your state who will make the final determination as to whether or not the medication will be a good fit for you. While you wait, you will have access to Remedy Med’s web portal, where you can track your order process and reach out with any follow-up questions you might have. I really appreciate that Remedy Meds allows its customers to reach out via text/email and also offers them a phone number they can call and talk with a real person. So much of the frustration that patients feel in regards to using an online provider for their weight loss medications is the lack of communication or the inability to connect with a real person.

Once your file is reviewed by a provider, you’ll be notified if it’s approved or denied. If denied, you would be eligible for a complete refund. If approved, your prescription will be sent to one of Remedy Meds’ approved compounding pharmacies for preparation and shipment. It’s a pretty simple process, and many of the reviews I’ve read on Remedy Meds have complimented them on their speed of approval and shipping of their medications.

Overall Thoughts and Feelings

I’ve reviewed a lot of these brands, and while most of them are pretty much the same, some definitely give me some red flags. Remedy Meds really didn’t give me any red flags. They are upfront with their pricing, they use some discernment with their approval process (not passing it out like candy), they keep the intake process straightforward, and they allow patients multiple ways to connect with their care team and physicians so they feel confident and supported.

One thing that I didn’t find a lot of information about was their approach to helping make sure their patients are utilizing these medications alongside other healthy habits like strength training and a balanced, protein-forward diet (both of which I help my clients in the Simply Strong App with!). I noticed that they promote a slow and steady weight loss, which I love, and I hope that their physicians also give sound advice on how to maintain their muscle mass and preserve their metabolism so they can build a healthy lifestyle and create results that will last far beyond the time spent taking the medication.

From a price perspective, Remedy Meds is very competitive with its big discount on the first month. A couple of things that I think would make Remedy Meds a little better would be offering oral tablets in addition to the injections, as many people are hesitant to do the injections, and also having a microdosing option for those who would like to take a lower, slower approach to using these medications and who may have different health goals that extend beyond weight loss. Otherwise, it seems like Remedy Meds is at the top of many lists (including Forbes Health) for good reason - they’re providing a solid service that’s competitively priced, with customer support that’s reliable.

Have you tried Remedy Meds? Thinking about it? Let me know in the comments! Your experience and feedback are always appreciated and can be very helpful for others. And, if you’re planning to get started with Remedy Meds, make sure you have a solid strength training and nutrition plan in place to make the most of your journey. I would love to support you in the Simply Strong App.
