My wife and I have two kids, a boy and girl - ages 8 and 5, that we’ll do pretty much anything for. From playing outside to coaching their sports teams to helping them go potty when they were younger - we want to be there for them.

A couple years ago, they both had a hard time pooping regularly. That’s when we started researching and shopping around for solutions.

When I noticed Seed had created a kids probiotic, it really piqued my interest because both of my kids had a hard time pooping regularly, plus I got excellent results with Seed DS-01. So, I was already familiar with the brand, and loved my experience with it. The only thing left for me to do was talk to the kids’ doctor about it.

After a regular check-up with our pediatrician, I asked the doctor if she ever heard of PDS-08 and if it would help with the kids’ regularity. She said she often recommends Seed and hiya kids probiotics to kids who have a hard time pooping.

That was good to hear, so we took her advice in hopes of solving this problem.

They’ve been taking Seed PDS-08 Kids Synbiotic for 2 years now. That’s because I have been taking Seed DS-01 and got great results after learning about some gut health issues I was facing. And Tami has been taking Seed VS-01, a vaginal synbiotic, and has had a great experience with those.

We actually rotate Seed PDS-08 and Hiya Kids Probiotics, but today I’m going to focus on PDS-08, my kids’ two year experience with it and how it has helped them stay regular.

Update (1 Year Later): Why We Stopped Using PDS-08

We used Seed PDS-08 daily for two full years and had great results, especially with regular bowel movements and overall gut health. But recently, we stopped using it.

It didn’t stop working. We just realized the kids were doing really well, and we didn’t feel like they needed it every day anymore.

We still think it’s a high-quality product and would recommend it to any parent dealing with similar gut health or regularity issues. It worked for us. We’re just not using it at the moment.

What Is Seed PDS-08?

Seed pds-08 product - box, container and packets

PDS-08 by Seed is a pediatric daily synbiotic, meaning it’s a prebiotic and probiotic product for kids ages 3-17 years old. It’s a powdered supplement that you can add to food or a drink, and doesn’t alter the taste.

Here’s a picture of the individual packets and powder below:

Mainly, PDS-08 bridges the fiber gap, which can help complement a healthy diet for kids. My kids are picky eaters and they don’t like to eat fruits and veggies all that much. With 5g of fiber per serving, we bridge that gap.

Designed specifically for easy, frequent bowel movements, here are some key ingredients that PDS-08 has in its formulation:

  • 5g of prebiotic fiber per serving
  • 9 strains of prebiotic and probiotics
  • 20 Billion AFU

What Separates Seed PDS-08 From Many Other Kids Probiotics?

Testing and Safety

This is one of the main reasons I use Seed DS-01! Seed’s testing is rigorous and thorough, plus they have a scientific advisory board that heads that department.

PDS-08 is monitored for over 20 allergens and their probiotic strains have GRAS and QPS status. In English, this means that it’s considered safe for consumption by the United States and European Union. However, I highly recommend you consult with your pediatrician before using this product for your child (or any product for that matter).

How Much Does It Cost?

PDS-08 costs $49.99 per month. It comes with a 30 day supply in an Aluminum BacTrac container, and the months after that they ship sustainable refills - very environmentally friendly.

Value: Is It Worth It For Our Family?

To us, Seed Kids Synbiotic is 100% worth it.

We buy and use one PDS-08 every month and split it between our two kids as we rotate this product and another kids probiotic (hiya, like I mentioned before, which is $30 per month).

At $49.99 per month, or $1.66 per serving, PDS-08 is well worth our investment considering our kids have regular bowel movements now. We believe it’s also helping strengthen their immune system.

My Kids’ Experience With Seed PDS-08 Daily Synbiotic

Like I mentioned before, my kids have been using PDS-08 for two years on a rotational basis. It’s a simple product, but I want to talk about how they take it, if they like it, and the results we have been seeing.

How They Take The Synbiotic Powder

The PDS-08 synbiotic powder comes in individualized packets, which is extremely convenient for single servings and especially when traveling. This makes it really easy to just open the packet and pour in the powder to any food or drink - no measuring and no mess.

Some mornings I cook breakfast for the kids before school. Eggs, sausage and usually a toasted waffle with sugar-free syrup. On those days, I mix the synbiotic powder with water in a glass of water. They never say anything about the change of taste, however, sometimes if you don’t mix it well, it can get grainy. The water also changes to a cloudy look, as you'll see in the images below.

On non-cooking mornings, I make some of the instant oatmeal packs for them. For these mornings, I mix the PDS-08 powder in the oatmeal. Again, no change of taste (I’ve tasted it a few times, so I can attest to that) and no change of texture of the oatmeal.

For us, Seed kids probiotics seem to mix better in oatmeal than drinks. I’m not sure exactly why, but that's just from our experience in two years of doing it.

Do My Kids Like It, Or Tolerate It?

My kids know that they take it in the morning, but at the same time they almost forget about it because I’m putting in their food or drink. It’s really just part of our routine now (it’s either PDS-08 or a hiya probiotic, which is a chewable tablet).

I really think they prefer the PDS-08 because it’s just mixed in with what they’re eating or drinking that morning. However, our pediatrician explained the benefits of rotating probiotics, and we bought into it. That said, the kids tolerate both probiotics.

Results

PDS-08 pediatric daily synbiotic with packets

Over the course of two years, we have experienced great results with Seed PDS-08 Kids Synbiotic, such as:

  • Regular bowel movements
  • Improved gut health
  • Strengthened immune system
  • Better, more restful sleep (they used to wake up super early, now they sleep in at an acceptable time)
  • Better mood and focus throughout the day

I think these results are indicative of the whole “gut health benefits theory” - AKA better gut health = better overall health, like a ripple effect. I am a firm believer in it, because I have seen those results for myself and my kids via Seed’s synbiotics.

After having the kids taking PDS-08 consistently within the first 2 weeks, both kids experienced regular bowel movements - a huge relief for us as parents. From that point forward, we just added it to our morning routine.

A few months later we noticed some common colds, but nothing drastic. It seemed like their immune system was fighting those colds off a bit better and faster.

Around this time, we also saw improvements in sleep patterns with both kids.

Both of our children used to wake up at 5:30 am every day. We’re up early, but that’s our time to get work done, and I usually don’t start the breakfast until 6:15 am to get them fueled up for school. The goal has always been to have them wake up at 6 am at the very earliest. But now they were waking up at 6:15 am - goal accomplished!

Lastly, their overall mood and focus improved. Their behavior has always been excellent, but sometimes get moody, like us as adults. There definitely was a difference in this department, though.

Conclusion

I can’t explain exactly why Seed PDS-08 worked so well for our kids, but it did. After two years, we saw big improvements in their gut health, sleep, immune system, and overall mood. It became part of our morning routine.

Eventually, we stopped using it, mostly because we felt our kids didn’t need it anymore. Their systems were working great, and we were happy with where things were.

I still think it’s a great product and would absolutely recommend it if your child struggles with regularity, sleep, or general gut issues. It helped us a lot, and we’d go back to it if we needed to.
